Whidbey

It's the first morning on Whidbey. All the dahlias and roses are in bloom and meadowlarks are cruising the scene like they're in the grand prix. Nick is trying deparately to tune in the world cup game from the satellite and I'm just barely awake enough to know coffee would taste pretty good right now.-d

safety

who knows...

what about banditos? what about...

the things that frighten me are other drivers and the ocean.

no gps, laptop, cell phone... we are not only going but leaving as well.

photo is of the nice shiny clean bus before we leave...

almost there... Ghana vs Brazil tomorrow at 8am at some local English pub... then the big clean up and pack the bus then a week at my Dads... chill, get the fishing gear together, pack up the bus in a real way, read laugh at my dads's pecadillos, sit in the sun with Darby. We are the arrow our tribe has sent south.

last minute frenzy

lay down last night on the sleeping pad and suddenly realized we where really going... a new level...

last daze

Jim's on his way to get the kat. I only cried a little last night, but I'm sure I'll let it all go tonight when we leave Hannah at her new home. I think it will be the hardest thing I'll have to do as part of our preparations.
Everything else is going smooth as silk. We're even finding time to watch the World Cup.

Bon Voyage Party

Hey all! Thank you everyone for a fantastic send-off! We couldn't ask for better! Just finished the clean-up and we even got a nap in!
Now for the last little packing and we are off!
Thanks to Darby's Mom for the great picture!

Little metal box

It's the 11th of June, still a few weeks to go, watching world cup early Sunday morning, a little blast of internationalism before the trip starts. Really sinking in now, we are going to do this big thing, an abstract notion has gained a life of it's own, pulling us along, lists of tasks and a bit of stress, Darby has 4 more days at work, I am already finished, the house is a bare walled shell, our bus is gaining features, an awning, a storage box, LED lighting... We will be moving from 950 sq. feet (100 sq M) to 90 sq. feet (10 sq m), wow that's tiny! We have lots of bus camping experience, both Darby and I grew up in families that owned them and D and I have had one for the almost 10 years we have know each other but it still seems amazing every time I walk outside and see it that we will live in that little metal box for a year...

The photo is from a trip we took with our friends Calissia and David to Burning Man last summer, taken at Hells Canyon in eastern Oregon.
